How to Select the Right Products or Services for Your Business

By Kimberley Borgens

When you first start your business, ideas for new products and services come to you so easily.

Then all of a sudden, you wake up one day (in your business) and realize – delivering on ALL the products and services have you (and your team) being pulled in a million directions.

In this article, I want to talk about how to select your offers wisely so that you can make more money, streamline your delivery process, and ultimately make your life a lot easier.

Things To Consider When Choosing The Right Products/Services

When selecting the right product for your business, there are several key factors to consider to make the best decision.

  1. Understand your target market: Before you start looking for products to sell, it’s important to have a clear understanding of your target market. This includes information about their demographics, needs, wants, and pain points. Knowing your target market will help you identify products that will appeal to them.
  2. Research the market: Once you have a clear understanding of your target market, it’s time to research the market. Look at what products are currently in demand, which are selling well, and what new products are coming out. This will give you an idea of what products will likely be successful and which ones to avoid.
  3. Consider the cost: Cost is an important factor when selecting a product. You need to find a product that can be profitable while still being affordable for your target market. Remember that the cheapest products may not always be the best quality, so it’s important to strike a balance between cost and quality.
  4. Look at the competition: Before you decide on a product, look at your competition. See what products they are selling, how they are pricing them, and what their marketing strategy is. This will give you an idea of what you are up against and how to differentiate your products from theirs.
  5. Test the product: Before making a final decision, it’s a good idea to test the product. This can be done by ordering a sample and trying it out yourself or by getting feedback from potential customers. This will give you a better understanding of the product’s quality and how it will be received by your target market.
  6. Evaluate your resources: Finally, consider the resources available to you regarding time, money, and personnel. You will want to ensure you have the resources to market, distribute, and support the product effectively.

The Power Of One Product/Service

Many entrepreneurs make the mistake of complicating their business too soon. They have many ideas for programs, products, or services they want to offer. And they say “yes” to pretty much everyone. This can cause chaos in the business and result in not delivering quality to their customers.

It can be beneficial to focus on one product or service when starting a business for several reasons:

  1. Simplicity: When starting a new business, trying and offering multiple products or services can be overwhelming. Focusing on one product or service allows you to keep things simple and manageable and fully understand and perfect that one offering.
  2. Branding: Focusing on one product or service allows you to create a clear brand identity. When customers see your product or service, they should immediately know what your business is about. Offering multiple products or services can dilute your branding and make it harder for customers to understand what you do.
  3. Marketing: When you offer one product or service, you can focus your marketing efforts on that specific offering. This allows you to create a targeted marketing strategy and reach your target audience more effectively.
  4. Cost: Starting a business can be expensive, and offering multiple products or services can increase costs. Focusing on one product or service allows you to keep your expenses low while you build your customer base.
  5. Scalability: Once you have established a product or service, you can expand your offerings and scale your business. By focusing on one product or service to start, you can ensure a solid foundation before expanding.

Wrapping Up

When selecting the right product or service for your business, it’s important to keep these factors in mind, so you can make an informed decision about which product is right for your business.
